A huge pleasure and a great honor to personally know the former soccer referee Emidio Marques Miranda. It happened on March 6, 2014, while returning from a visit from São Paulo to my city, Jacarei.
Mr. Emidio, is also naturally from Jacarei and started in sports as a basketball referee, where he remained for about 10 years. One of the top moments was when, at the end of the Tokyo Olympics, he was the referee of the game United States vs Russia, in 1964. He also devoted himself for nearly 30 years on the soccer field as referee. One of the most striking matches that went happened on October 2, 1974 the last game of Pele, when he left the Santos. That night, Santos won Ponte Preta by 2-0, in Vila Belmiro. Nowadays, he is in FIFA's arbitration.
In a noble act, Mr. Emidio took from his blazer his official and exclusive FIFA brooch (gift) and presented me. A gesture I will never forget!

Tradução:Um imenso prazer e uma grande honra conhecer pessoalmente o ex-árbitro Emídio Marques Miranda. Um encontro ocasional no dia 06 de março de 2014, ao retornar de visita à Grande São Paulo para minha cidade, Jacareí.
O Sr. Emídio é também natural de Jacareí e é Engenheiro Civil. Começou nos esportes como árbitro de basquetebol, onde permaneceu por aproximadamente 10 anos. Um dos ápices foi quando, na final das Olimpíadas de Tóquio, apitou o jogo Estados Unidos x Rússia,no ano de 1964. Ele também se dedicou durante quase 30 anos nos gramados, como árbitro de futebol de campo. Uma das partidas mais marcantes que dirigiu aconteceu no dia 02 de outubro de 1974, o último jogo do Rei Pelé, quando se despediu do Santos. Naquela noite, o Santos venceu a Ponte Preta por 2 a 0, na Vila Belmiro. Atualmente é instrutor de arbitragem na FIFA.
